California Assisted Living Association: Meet the Board - Michelle Egerer

 8/30/2013

Members and potential members look to the CALA Board of Directors for representation and leadership. To have a better vision of all that these Assisted Living leaders do for their companies and CALA members, we asked them a series of questions. Their answers illuminate their ideas on work, community, and caring for seniors, and show the breadth and variety of companies represented on the CALA Board of Directors. To celebrate these thoughtful, dedicated people working on our members’ behalf, we will feature weekly interviews with each board member, available here and on the CALA Board of Directors webpage.

Michelle Egerer is the senior vice president of operations forSilverado Senior Living, which is headquartered in Irvine and has 11 communities in California.

1. Why do you work in Assisted Living?

It is my passion: the opportunity to innovate, give life, and change the lives of residents with memory-impairing diseases, their families, and our associates.

2. What profession other than yours would you like to attempt, and why?

For me, there is no other profession as rewarding.

3. What are the most important things we should know about your company?

Silverado is based on a strong culture, purpose-driven, with the core operating philosophy of love is greater than fear. We are dedicated to changing the world in the way in which memory care services are delivered through end of life. We innovate, share best practices, and we are a learning, transformational company.

4. How would you describe your experience on the CALA board?

The CALA board represents the interests and issues faced by all senior living providers, as well as a proactive response and approach to our industry where key legislation, along with significant and positive outcomes working with licensing, are but a few of the successes achieved every year, benefiting everyone.

5. Who are your heroes, and why?

My parents, for their strong values: responsibility, positivity, work ethic, making a difference, and love.

6. What advice was given to you that you feel elevated your performance in life?

The advice I was given was to define my purpose and practice servant leadership.

7. What do you enjoy doing in your downtime?

Spending time with family, friends, and having travel adventures.
