Silverado Supports the 2014 Senior Care Hero Awards

 10/21/2014

More than 500 guests gathered in Anaheim this past weekend for the 2014 Senior Care Hero Awards. The event each year celebrates the unsung heroes in senior and health care, from physicians to caregivers to volunteers and family with a heart for seniors. The annual awards gala servers to both recognize award recipients — each nominated and voted for by the public — and to benefit a local nonprofit. This year's event proceeds benefited SeniorServ, the largest Meals on Wheels and non-profit senior nutrition provider in Orange County.

As the event chairperson and a longstanding SeniorServ board member, Silverado's Randy Platt acted as one of two emcees during the gala. Platt— who oversees Silverado Hospice and At Home services as senior vice president of operations — was also honored with an award for his dedication to positively impact lives through his work at both SeniorServ and Silverado.

"The Senior Care Hero Awards Gala is a great opportunity to raise much needed funds to serve the Orange County senior population. Last year, SeniorServ delivered 9,000 meals to those in need, and the funds raised during this event will help to maintain that level of support going into 2015," shares Platt. "This event also provides an incredible opportunity for healthcare providers to recognize the hard work done by caregivers everyday."

More than 130 hardworking and passionate individuals were nominated for a Senior Care Hero award this year, with 17 award recipients taking home the top honor.

"It was so meaningful to watch each honoree accept their award," adds Platt. "What impressed me the most is that each and every recipient accepted their award not for themselves, but for both their colleagues and for the people they serve."

Among those recipients was the Alzheimer's Association's Jim McAleer, who was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his role in raising awareness of Alzheimer's disease as President and CEO of the Association's Orange County Chapter. Onstage to help recognize him was Michelle Egerer, who serves as chairman of the board for the Orange County Chapter and as senior vice president of memory care community operations at Silverado.
