Resident Art Auctions Help Raise Money for Alzheimer's Research

Art activities are one of the most popular and effective engagement programs at Silverado communities, and our Wine & Watercolor Art Auctions put residents’ art to work helping raise money for research into the very condition that affects them. So far this year several Silverado Memory Care Communities have hosted Wine & Watercolor events, raising thousands of dollars to help with Alzheimer’s research.

This past April paintings form residents at Silverado Brookfield and Silverado Oak Village were auctioned off during a mixer to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association of Southeastern Wisconsin. More than 60 people attended and 37 paintings were sold, generating $1,560.00 to battle Alzheimer’s disease.

“The auction and art programs bring joy and a feeling of connection to our residents, as well as showing that people with dementia can lead meaningful lives,” says Silverado Brookfield Administrator Pam Preston. “This is a wonderful celebration of their abilities, not limitations.”

In March Silverado Escondido hosted their third annual Wine & Watercolor Mixer and Silent Auction where a crown of 100 guests viewed the art and bid on their favorite paintings. More than 30 pieces of resident art were sold, raising more than $1,000 for the San Diego Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.

In addition to the financial help this provides Alzheimer’s research, these events help raise awareness of Alzheimer’s and dementia within the community through coverage with local news resources. Here are just a few examples:

The engagement and purpose that creating art for a good cause brings residents is an extension of Silverado’s commitment to enriching the lives of those touched by memory impairment. To see this purposeful engagement firsthand or schedule a tour, find a Silverado community near you here.
