Residents Volunteer at Local Food Bank – Silverado residents often gather to volunteer in their communities, demonstrating that a memory impairment does not take away people’s desire to make a difference. For example, Silverado Naperville residents volunteered at the Naperville Food Pantry by decorating birthday bags for children and families in need.
Silverado Naperville Recognized for State-of-the-Art Amenities – Just months after its official opening, Environments for Aging applauded Silverado Naperville for the innovative design elements that went into construction, specifically addressing the needs of those with dementia.
Resident Paul Bierbrier Art Exhibit – Silverado Plano hosted a silent auction art exhibit featuring resident Paul Bierbrier’s artwork, raising $1,250 for the Alzheimer’s Association. His work and the event was also featured in several local news outlets.
Resident Nathan Lindsay’s Top-Secret Career – The Lindsay family of San Juan Capistrano gained insight into their loved one's top-secret military career after he participated in a Silverado art class and painted a NASA flight plan similar to those that he had drafted in the past.
Silverado Recognized for Neighborhood Concept – Silverado Lake Zurich was recognized in the Chicago Tribune for the company's innovative neighborhood concept, featuring different “residential neighborhoods” that cater to residents’ assisted living needs, abilities and interests.
Silverado Aspen Park 5-Star Rating – Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) awarded Silverado Aspen Park with 5-star ratings in every available category: Health Inspections, Nurse Staffing and Quality Measures, which includes clinical outcomes such as vaccinations, change in weight, pain reduction and fall prevention.
Silverado Teams Up with NHPCO – Silverado teamed up with the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization to produce a video segment featuring a Silverado Hospice volunteer as part of the organization’s Moments of Life video campaign. The series depicts treasured moments that are made possible by hospice teams across the country.
WWII Pilot 100th Birthday Celebration – Silverado Turtle Creek hosted an aviation themed party to celebrate resident Mayme Tanner’s 100th birthday and extraordinary life — including her service as a member of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) during WWII. The celebration received national attention.
Silverado Internship Programs – Several Silverado locations hosted internship programs, welcoming students from local schools into communities to learn about dementia and explore the memory care industry.
Elder Care Chat – Silverado partnered with SeniorsForLiving.com to host its two online chats with Silverado Medical Directors, who shared their expertise live with Twitter followers.
Wine & Watercolor Art Auctions – Many Silverado communities hosted Wine & Watercolor art auctions featuring residents’ artwork. This year, Silverado auctions raised tens of thousands of dollars for Alzheimer’s research.
