1950's Sock Hop Party
In celebration of winning the Community of the Year Award for 2014, Silverado Newport Mesa’s residents and staff partied the day away 50s style. The community was decorated in 1950s style, complete with Coca-Cola floral centerpieces and tablecloths decked out with old muscle cars and records. Classic music from the likes of Elvis Presley & Chuck Berry was played around the community.
Catering, put on by our culinary staff, consisted of all things found in a fifties diner: burgers, fries, soda pop and malts. And what kind of party would it be without a few games thrown in? Our hopscotch tournament, hula hoop contest and sock toss (bean bag toss) took place on the outside patio. Residents and staff could be seen in 1950s garb such as poodle skirts, cat eye glasses and scarves for the ladies, while the men got to slick back their hair and tuck in their T-shirts Grease style.
It was a fun and memorable event for our residents, who reminisced about when they were younger, and for staff who got to hear their stories.
In celebration of November’s National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness month Silverado Newport Mesa residents and staff joined hundreds of others for this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, their team properly named the Silverado Striders.
