Silverado Resident Reconnects with Passion for Horses
At Silverado, we cater engagements and activities to our residents' personal preferences and hobbies. When we heard that Silverado Lake Zurich resident Frank had a passion for horses, Silverado partnered with Walk On, a local horse barn that welcomes seniors. Frank now goes to Walk On's senior program twice a month to groom and feed horses. His favorite horse is a beautiful Hafflinger named Rocky. Earlier this month Frank, a Silverado Lake Zurich resident, was featured in their newsletter.
"Walk On welcomed Frank along with other residents from [Silverado] for the first time in the Spring of 2015. The Walk On Frank was so different from the Frank the care attendants saw at the [community]. At Walk On, Frank was always eager to see Rocky. He was actively participating in the program. He would be talkative and tell jokes. Where at the [community], he was quiet... Upon one visit, Frank noticed a Breyer horse (a collectible plastic horse) in our viewing room that reminded him of Rocky, So, we challenged him to attend a drawing class back at [Silverado]. He was to draw a picture of Rocky in exchange for the Breyer horse. The next week, Frank arrived to Walk On with a beautiful picture and left with the Breyer Horse. It is one of his prized possessions. Frank invites people into his room to see his "Rocky". Best of all, Frank now regularly attends art classes and other activities all thanks to a Hafflinger named Rocky."
