Former Silverado Family Member Volunteers to Teach Nexus Art Classes
Volunteer art instructor makes special connection with resident
While her mother lived at Silverado, Sandy Lowder was very touched by Silverado's unique philosophy and family-like environment. After her mother passed away, she wanted to give back and keep coming by to see her Silverado family. Sandy, a talented artist, decided she would volunteer her time and participate in teaching a weekly Nexus art class.
While teaching her “Painting with Acrylics without Drawing” class, Sandy met Silverado resident Alex. Alex was completely focused on his work and Sandy got the sense that he had a real feel for this subject matter. Sandy started a conversation with Alex and they immediately connected. It was then Sandy discovered that Alex was the founder of the art department at the College of DuPage where he also was a professor. Sandy hopes to work with Alex to teach her upcoming classes!
