"My mom is a beautiful, vibrant, outgoing 71-year-old with Alzhiemer's and frontotemporal dementia. We were told by her doctors that she needed to be in memory care. My sister and I started the journey of looking for a home for her in Austin. We were losing hope as we visited memory care communities throughout the city. How could we put our mom in any of these places where all the residents seemed to be at end-of-life?

We looked at assisted living facilities, but with Mom's outbursts and exit seeking, she was not a candidate. We felt hopeless to find a place where Mom could be with people like her. People who are still independent in many ways, people that are social and enjoy having a good time, but have a memory deficit that prevents them from being able to live alone.

When we finally came to Silverado, we found hope.

We knew this was the place for Mom, we just needed to move her from Dallas to Austin. After deciding Silverado would be her new home, she broke her ankle in Dallas before we had moved her. I called Rose at Silverado in a panic, sure they would not be able to support her with this injury that would keep her in a cast and wheelchair for over two months. Rose told me to move her to Silverado Bee Cave and we would make a plan together. My sister and I met with "the team" and we did indeed make a plan. The plan worked and four months later, Mom is out of her cast and a vibrant member of the Silverado Bee Cave Community.

I attended a "Sock Hop" at Silverado last week where we ate hamburgers, drank milk shakes and danced to the Oldies. She had a ball and it was so great to see her happy. I cannot thank Silverado enough for the love and compassion they have shown not just Mom, but our entire family. We truly feel we are part of the Silverado Family."
